The ITS sequence matches well to both U. bullata and U. tritici but it is virtually impossible to resolve these two species using ITS sequences. However, U. tritici appears only to infect the leaves (not seeds) of its host which appear confined to barley, rye and wheat. In contrast, U. bullata infects the seeds of various species of grasses, most notably Bromus.
